A reading, published with its checks still open. A Vigslist translation.
“My house was built — the mountain was built too”. An ašerĝita witness fragment.
Published as a reading. No first-translation claim is made for this piece. The checks that would settle such a claim are named in the notes below and are still open; the wording on this page claims nothing they have not settled.
identified on its record, by Löhnert via Geller's catalogue, inside the edition of the balaĝ Ašerĝita (ll. 154–170 of Löhnert's numbering; German), with a "cf." to Cohen, CLAM, pp. 707f. The reading below is of this witness from Ur; the first-English label waits on the print-check wave (the Löhnert correspondence and the CLAM pages), exactly as A2's K.5104 waits on its doors.
One fragment: BM.114079, from Ur (1919-10-11 series), Late Babylonian script, British Museum — the lower left corner of a tablet, ten lines on the obverse and seven on the reverse, in several separate pieces. CDLI number on the live record: P429573. Photograph on the record.
A goddess (or her lament-singer) counts what was hers in the first person, line after line closing in -ĝu₁₀, "my": what she set in all the lands, what she raised in all the lands, what she placed beside the Anunna; her cattle-pen and her sheepfold, multiplied; the craftsmen at their work — the burgul-craftsman, the stone-carver; her true house; her abzu, bowed down. And at the end the equation the whole litany has been building: "my house was built — the mountain was built too; my house was destroyed — the mountain was destroyed with it." The house and the mountain stand and fall as one thing.
Transliteration exactly as the record serves it; the record's own note on obv. 5′ is printed with that line. Counts: 18 line-units — 0 whole, 14 part, 4 fragments, 0 invented.
