A reading, published with its checks still open. A Vigslist translation.
A Sumerian incantation against the white wind (en₂ im-babbar) — a built reading held for one named print check: Haupt, Akkadische und sumerische Keilschrifttexte (1881–82), eyeballed against the incipit and the tablet numbers.
Held, with its checks still open. The reading stands built and is held; its text is not printed on this page. No claim beyond the entry’s own stated posture is made here. The checks that would settle it are named below and are still open; the wording on this page claims nothing they have not settled.
A Sumerian incantation against the “white wind” (en2 im-babbar), on K.2466 (+ Sm.1161). The reverse carries an Ashurbanipal palace colophon and nothing else. The posture carried in the Second Collection’s held entry is a first-English rendering of this witness: no edition and no translation of the incantation, in any language, was located in the sources checked — the record’s references are discussion only (Borger’s Kuyunjik catalogue; Reading the Library of Ashurbanipal (2020/2023), for the colophon) — and the opening line has a one-line parallel in K.2832 (whose record carries a copy, King, Babylonian Magic and Sorcery (1896), p. xix, and discussion only). Dragon note, so the look-alike is fenced: rev. 8′, inside the colophon’s stock phrase “the wisdom of Nabû … as much as exists,” ba-aš2-mu is the verb bašû, “to exist” — not the dragon bašmu, and no dragon stands in this text.
The reading stands built: 39 line positions (obverse 1–25, reverse 1′–14′) — 0 whole, 37 part, 2 fragments, 0 invented.
One check stands open: Haupt, Akkadische und sumerische Keilschrifttexte (ASKT) (Hinrichs, 1881–82) — its introductory compilations and text list, checked against the incipit en2 im-babbar im-babbar and against K.2466, Sm.1161, and K.2832.
What would unlock it: that eyeball, completed. Until it is done, the reading stays held and unprinted.
Held reading, K.2466. Its text is not printed here; the named checks above stand open. Published as a held entry 2026-10-23. A Vigslist translation.
